Now digital business knows no borders.

No matter how you express it, 2016 marks an amazing time for global business. While the use of eSignatures has been legally recognized by the US government since 2000, the European Union has just updated their original 1999 Directive with the new simplified, more powerful regulation. Now it's even easier to keep work and business moving forward everywhere. DocuSign and Go... across the pond, mountains, valleys, and borders.

Two acts. Two continents. One amazing future.

The United States ESIGN Act

On June 30, 2000, President Bill Clinton signed into law the ESIGN Act giving electronic signatures and online contracts legal acceptance across the United States. To commemorate this milestone, the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate passed concurrent resolutions to recognize June 30 as National ESIGN Day.

The EU's eIDAS Regulation

While the EU Directive of 1999 first introduced eSignature in Europe, the Electronic ID and Trust Services (eIDAS) Regulation coming into effect on 1 July will be a game-changing act, providing clear guidelines for eSignatures and standards for their usage across the EU to make cross-border digital business a reality and prime the region for digital transformation for government institutions, business and citizens.
